Bed size standards vary around the world. Not only are the names of the standard sizes sometimes different but even beds and mattresses with the same name can have different measurements in different countries. Even within a single country different manufacturers interpret the "standard" bed sizes differently. Some might shave a couple of inches off to reduce cost, others add a little for comfort.
The second important factor to take into consideration is the size. While you may have purchased a double duvet and now looking for a cover, you need to measure the duvet and then match it to the set. The reason is that luxury bedding sets of a high quality are often made by a number of different manufacturers and their sizes may vary ever so slightly. You don't want a set that is slightly too big or too small, so it bunches up the duvet inside the cover. You need your set to fit your bed and cover like a glove.
Next you will need to pay attention to the size available. You should have some indication on the size bed you are purchasing for. If you have a custom bed, you may find it a little harder to find the right selection to meet your requirements, often having to order custom made item to meet your needs.
Those few inches can make a lot of difference.Beds are usually labeled according to the dimensions of the mattress - the actual measurements of the bed itself might be a little wider and/or longer. A Standard King is also called an Eastern King and a California King is also called a Western King. A Standard King is about 4" wider and a California King is 4" longer.
