A knitter can make a patchwork quilt out of colored squares. She can make small swatches using the basic knit stitch until she has enough to constitute the size of a blanket. Once she has reached that point, she only has to sew the squares together by hand to create a hand-made quilt. She can alternate squares in the recipient's college colors or choose shades that coordinate with the decor of the room in which it will be placed. Lace, fringe or some other kind of trim can be sewn around the edges on both sides of the blanket.
Folded blankets are easy to keep in the linen closet. They take up very little space and are always ready when you need them. If you have extra unexpected guests, a down throw blanket laid on the couch with another to use as a cover is a quick and very comfortable bed.
One of the most luxurious of the bedding items are the luxury blankets. This is a particular requirement for those places which experiences extreme dipping of the mercury. Luxury blankets are stuff that was once the exclusive right of the royalty specially the ones which existed on a grand scale like the British and the French Royalty. These blankets were not just a very good protection from the cold, but also one that made you feel pampered. Quite obviously, if you use these blankets you would find that you are actually getting quite a sound sleep. Indeed quite worth an investment.
The choices of materials are even so amazing as they come in printed or plain fabrics. Some of these blankets are quite luxurious, for example, Cashmere blankets, Alpaca wool blankets or Camel hair and Merino wool blends. The choice is quite varied. These blankets mentioned above can be quite costly. However it can be used as a "keepsake" blanket and handed down as a family heirloom from one generation to another. You may not mind the cost as these natural pure blankets are non-allergenic, renown for their lightness (feather weight) and silkiness.
