A knitter can make a patchwork quilt out of colored squares. She can make small swatches using the basic knit stitch until she has enough to constitute the size of a blanket. Once she has reached that point, she only has to sew the squares together by hand to create a hand-made quilt. She can alternate squares in the recipient's college colors or choose shades that coordinate with the decor of the room in which it will be placed. Lace, fringe or some other kind of trim can be sewn around the edges on both sides of the blanket.
The baby can wear it as well. Some of these blankets also have embroidery done on them. They look very beautiful on the baby. You can also find some with animal shapes on them. Please notice the stitches and pattern very carefully. They should not harm the baby in any way.
