Baby blankets are great things to have in your house. It is just one of those "must haves". One of the first things that come to mind is a security blanket. These are usually a smaller blanket for baby to take anywhere, anytime for comfort and may act as a cuddly toy. When baby cries it can act as a pacifier as nothing else will matter until they have their favorite blanket.
An existing blanket can be upcycled and still be a meaningful gift. A plain blanket is a good foundation for colorful embroidery and appliques. A favorite quote can be sewn onto the blanket in fancy script. A talented artist can paint an original piece of art on the blanket using acrylic paints. An old patchwork quilt can be repaired by sewing new patches over torn or faded ones. Covering worn patches with fabric in contemporary colors makes the whole quilt look new, especially if the crafter is careful to maintain the original shape of the pattern. She might want to combine personalization techniques by painting small pictures on some of the patches. She could also embroider secret messages on them.
